Luís Simões announces its membership of Lean&Green, a European collaboration platform created to reduce emissions associated with the supply chain and achieve carbon neutral emissions by 2050, in line with the objectives set at the Paris Climate Conference (COP 21).

Luís Simões is supported by local Lean&Green partners in the two markets where it operates.

The membership takes place through AECOC in Spain and GS1 in Portugal.

With this accession, Luís Simões commits to reduce its CO2 emissions by more than 20% within 5 years. This is another step in our sustainability strategy, which aims to promote a more respectful logistics model of our society and its future. As a result, LS aims to limit the environmental impact of its customers’ transport and logistics operations.

The measures implemented include energy efficiency initiatives, production of renewable energies for self-consumption, optimization of transport routes and use of biofuels and more sustainable vehicles.

“At Luís Simões we are committed to implementing new initiatives that help us in the progressive decarbonization of our operations and in the fulfillment of our sustainability commitments, with the ultimate goal of offering higher value solutions to our customers”, explains Pedro Ventura, Luís Simões Manager of Processes and Compliance. “With our membership of Lean&Green we intend to accelerate this transformation, thanks to the access to knowledge and good practices in this area.”

The implemented measures will be supervised by external auditors, which, in addition to adding transparency and traceability to the process, will allow to correct deviations and make adjustments if necessary.

Being part of Lean&Green allows member companies to share sustainable experiences, join forces and find synergies.

João Guimarães, Executive Manager of GS1 Portugal, adds “this membership demonstrates the central role that sustainability increasingly assumes in the strategy and objectives of organizations. We will do everything in our power to support Luís Simões in promoting efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.”

Created in 2018 in the Netherlands, Lean&Green is currently present in 14 countries and its network consists of more than 600 companies, being the leading European community in logistics sustainability.
