Luís Simões has invested approximately 3, 5 million Euros in the renewal of its fleet of rigid refrigerated vehicles for food distribution in Portugal.
All vehicles are equipped with cool boxes and refrigeration equipment which ensure the utmost safety in feed transportation and a quality service for all customers.
According to Iberian Fleet Manager Cláudia Trindade, this is “another step towards improving the efficiency of our processes, so we continue to grow in a sustainable and profitable way, while offering our customers the best solutions”.
New fleet consists of 50 MAN vehicles
The new fleet consists of 50 vehicles from the MAN brand, ranges TGE, TGL, TGM and TGS, with different gross weights, ranging between 3500 kilos and 26 tones. All of them are equipped with cool boxes produced by company Jorge Pires, and refrigeration equipment provided by Frindus (Carrier).
In addition, aiming to ensure maximum safety in feed transport, we have also established a partnership with company Cartrack to equip our vehicles with thermal sensors. Thanks to this system, it is possible to read the temperature of the transport area remotely and in real-time, allowing for a quick response in case of temperature variations and other variants, such as the possibility of unintended door opening.
Innovation and sustainability, the central pillars of the Luís Simões business strategy
This fleet renewal is complemented with the addition in Spain of three municipal waste collection vehicles, which should be placed in service in a few weeks. This is another step towards our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and developing sustainable and profitable principles.
For this purpose, in 2018 we launched 17 initiatives with the purpose of reducing our CO2 emissions by 370, 3 tones. In the transport area, it is worth highlighting that 97% of the Portuguese and Spanish fleets use Euro V and Euro VI engines, which have a lower environmental impact.
As further recognition of our commitment to sustainability, we were awarded by the Ecovadis platform with the Gold Medal in the Spanish transport sector. This is a platform that assesses the sustainability performance of the distribution chain.
