Gold for the second consecutive year, with a rating above the industry average
For the second consecutive year, Luis Simões has been awarded the EcoVadis Gold Medal, a sustainability performance rating platform for the global supply chain, for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) management in the transport sector during the year 2019.
This recognition is the result of the collective effort of our various departments to build a distribution model that contributes to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
For the evaluation, the EcoVadis platform analyzed our Sustainability, Ethics, Labor Practices and Human Rights, and Sustainable Procurement policies. Overall, we achieved a score of 69/100 and a ranking higher than the industry average in each of the aspects analyzed.
Commitment to Continuous Improvement
“We believe in a sustainable Transport and Logistics model that respects the environment and people. At Luis Simões, we are committed to continuous improvement to position ourselves as a responsible logistics operator, relying on three fundamental pillars: social, economic, and environmental progress,” explains Claudia Simões, Coordinator of the Luis Simões Sustainability Development area.
It is precisely in this last aspect that we have made significant progress. Over the past year, we reduced our CO2e emissions by 1,313 tons, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Transport and Logistics departments. Regarding Transportation, we invested in using refrigerated trucks with lower greenhouse gas emissions and the incorporation of ecoDriving systems, which reduce diesel consumption. We also highlight the investment in renewing our fleet with safety systems that promote more efficient driving, improving road safety and energy efficiency.
Furthermore, we were pioneers in introducing gigaliners in the Iberian Peninsula and currently have 10 units in operation. These vehicles increase the payload capacity per trip by 33%, reducing the distance traveled and thus achieving greater efficiency and lower fuel consumption.
These and other actions have once again allowed us to achieve the EcoVadis Gold Medal, solidifying our position as a responsible company.
The platform uses an evaluation system based on demanding international CSR standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, or ISO 26000. Currently, it reports the results of over 45,000 companies in 150 countries with the mission to reduce risks, promote innovation, and increase transparency and trust in business partnerships.
